and
THE CURRENT POLITICAL SITUATION
By Tom O'Connor

MEMBERS FROM OTHER BRANCHES ARE VERY WELCOME
Dear Colleagues,
For our Feburary event Sean O'Cluaid treated us to a very enjoyable and relaxing talk, evoking a somewhat tranquil experience by the nature of it's content. Our March talk is likely to contrast with that experience.
Tom O'Connor is a retired lecturer from TU Dublin. With his wife Carmel O'Hara they visited the West Bank in Palestine last autumn where they volunteered in a biodiversity project for 3 months, and later in the harvesting of olives in the Bethlehem area. Tom returned for the month of February 2023 to finish some projects.
The talk will deal with their volunteering experiences, and their travels around the West Bank, including practical details of getting there.
It will also deal with the current political situeation facing the people of Palestine following the election of the Israeli Government in Nov 2022, which includes severe facist politicians at ministerial level. Tom predicts If the present rate of killings of Palestinians continues, 2023 will be the worst year since the Seconda Intifada.
Tom will be accompanied by Carmel and both will answer questions following the Talk.
Kind Regards
Eamonn

House Keeping Matters:
a) We will be attempting to start the talk at 11am sharp:
b) Over Covid, room hire at the TC increased substantially so we will be making a very modest collection
to help cover room hire and refreshments cost - cash only!
c) To assist with general arrangements It is helpful to know how many are coming so heads-up would be appreciated.
