Dear Colleagues,
INVITATION
Guided Tour of The Pearse Museum
Meetup 10.45am at Museum Reception
(Allow 90 minutes max. for Museum tour)
Wednesday 27th July
A Guided Tour of The Museum and afterwards, highly recommended, a self-guided tour of St. Enda’s Park, not forgetting the café for snacks or lunch. Main Entrance:- Grange Rd. Rathfarnham Dublin 16 D16Y7Y5
The Museum is located in the former home and school of Patrick Pearse originally called the Hermitage or Odin’s Rest.
As we all know, Patrick Pearse and his brother William were among those executed for their part in the 1916 rebellion. The Museum tells the story of their role in that dramatic event, as well as Pearse’s work as a writer, teacher, and Irish language campaigner. The museum gives us a keen insight into Patrick Pearse's school with his innovative approach to education. 369

The House, Garden and Park
The Museum is sited in an eighteenth century designed landscape surrounded by the 50 acre St. Enda’s Park. From Grange Road it is accessed through an imposing recessed gateway flanked on both sides by pedestrian archways surmounted by cornices and stone lions. This beautiful entrance enhances the adjoining road and invites the passer-by to want to explore what lies beyond.
There is a leisurely walkway around the park called Emmet's Walk. Emmet’s Fort is to be found on the southeast corner of the park. In addition, a collection of various grotesque, Gothic Garden features, c.1800, consisting of a grotto, a dolmen, three stone archways and a small building with gothic openings are to be found. The walk around the park is about 1.6km and takes about 30 minutes but deserves longer. There is a leaflet on the Park follies available at reception.
