Guided Tour of TU Dublin Grangegorman Campus

Grangegorman is the flagship campus for Technological University Dublin, Ireland's first Technological University and one of the country's largest third level educators. The development of Grangegorman was a process originally pursued by the former DIT to bring all of its city centre locations together in one location. 

TU Dublin was formed following a successful application from the former Higher Education Institutions: DIT, ITB, and ITT. A large proportion of Dublin RMA branch members are retirees from these ITs

In 2010, the government designated Grangegorman as a Strategic Development Zone and a masterplan was delivered to transform the 72 acre site from a largely abandoned and isolated enclosure into an integrated and inclusive education, health and community campus. That process is well advanced and there is now over 80,000m2 of developed space that is home to 10,000 students and 1,000 staff, including modern, state-of-the-art education spaces, adapted and restored historical buildings, and attractive green spaces and sports facilities.

The tour of the campus will guide visitors around these spaces and (if accessible on the day) to view some of the highly specialised areas, including the 400 seat Concert Hall and the Black Box Theatre. Your guide will also discuss the history of Grangegorman as you view some of the 19th century buildings that once housed patients of the Richmond Asylum and inmates of the Grangegorman Penitentiary.

Booking Information

As there may be more than the usual interest for the outing it may be necessary to split the overall group in two requiring the services of a second guide. To assist with this eventuality, if you hope to attend, please book as early as possible and before Sat. June 18th at the latest. I appreciate late cancellations are sometimes unavoidable. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Notice of successful and unsuccessful booking will be forwarded to members asap after Sat. June 18th.
