10:30 am: 2023 AGM10:30 am: 2023 AGM
The AGM 2023 will be held in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone on Tuesday May 9thThe AGM will follow the usual format: Registration 10.30 - 11.30, followed by the AGM, with a light lunch available-at your own expense - and finishing at 4.30 pm. Dinner will follow at 7.00 pm. As previously agreed, the Spring Break will be combined with the AGM, but will not interfere with it. 10:30 am: Spring Break 202310:30 am: Spring Break 2023 –
The Spring Break will be held in Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone on the 9th, 10th and 11th of May 2023The Spring Break arrangements are: €85.00 pps, €105 Single per night DBB. Tours will be organised - probably including Athlone Castle and Museum, Clonmacnoise, a Shannon Cruise -possibly on a Viking boat -, a Distillery visit (Kilbeggan or Tullamore DEW). The Shamrock Lodge is not a ‘big’ hotel – just 40 rooms and some apartments which will be available to us. The apartments have two twin/double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sitting room. They have convenient parking and a covered walkway to the hotel, and occupants will have their breakfasts in the hotel with everyone else. The hotel asks that participants book with them at least 8 weeks before the event - i.e. March 14th. This in important as it is a longer lead in than usual, but understandable given that rooms may be in short supply. The hotel will only allow a maximum of 20 single rooms at the €105.00 nightly rate. The normal single DBB rate is €120.00 per night. |

Additional Information Getting There, Parking & Refreshments Eircode K36 YP65 - If bringing a car there are two free car parks in the grounds off the "Back Road". The one nearest the castle is a two minute walk from the Visitor Centre courtyard and about 4 minutes from the Castle. Parking in the Bridgefield car park is not recommended as you have only two hours free, and you have to pay in advance or risk getting clamped! If coming by bus it is best to get the 42 to St Sylvester's Catholic church just past the train station. You can turn immediately right and cross at the lights in front of the Casino, thatched cottage. Enter the park with the cricket pitch to your right. Follow the path straight ahead and it's about 10 - 15 minutes to the courtyard which is on the left. If coming by train, exit the station by the uphill exit and turn right crossing in front of the Casino. About a 10 - 15 minute walk. The meeting point will be the Visitor Centre courtyard which is easy to find. Map Link - (https://mapcarta.com/N6654757359/Map) (It is well worth viewing) Avoca have a cafe and food hall in the Visitor Centre with a range of hot and cold, sweet and savoury options to eat in or take away, Classic Castle Tour This is not just a tour of a castle; this is a trip through 800 years of history. Learn about the Talbot family and the historical events that shaped their lives, explore the private rooms and furniture and art collections, and hear tales of battles and banquets from our passionate guides. The Castle tour will take at least 45 minutes. Other Attractions A minimum of two hours in order to fully enjoy all that Malahide Castle and Gardens has to offer is recommended but with so much to see and do, it’s easy to spend a whole day in it. In addition to the Castle Tour there are a host of additional interesting attractions One of the major features is the beautiful Talbot Botanic Gardens. On the grounds you will also find the Walled Garden, a Victorian Conservatory, the Butterfly House, and an old abbey ruins. Stretching over 20 acres of grass and woodland, the West Lawn is home to rare trees from all over the world, the famous Cedar of Lebanon, Tasmanian pencil pines and Chinese Ginkgo trees, to name but a few. On the Castle grounds you will also find an award-winning children's playground that includes a fairy trail. Children can use an interactive booklet to solve clues and answer questions along the route. Mesmerising for kids and charming for a wholesome family day out. Under 3’s go free. An outing not to be missed. |
